The Poor Girl Who Gave Away Her Lunch
Maya was a quiet girl in high school. Every day, she sat alone under a tree during lunch, eating the same simple meal — a small sandwich her mom packed with love. Her classmates often mocked her for it.
“Why don’t you buy food from the canteen like everyone else?” one girl teased. Maya just smiled and said softly, “I’m saving for something special.”
No one knew that Maya’s family struggled to afford even basic things. Her father worked two jobs, and her mother sewed clothes at home. Yet, Maya never complained. She was grateful for what she had.
One day, during lunch, Maya noticed a little boy outside the school fence, shivering and hungry. He was staring at everyone eating. Without hesitation, Maya walked up to him and handed him her sandwich.
“You look like you need this more than I do,” she said kindly.
The boy’s eyes filled with tears as he whispered, “Thank you, miss.”
The next day, Maya had no lunch. Her classmates laughed again. “Still saving for something special?” one of them sneered.
Maya nodded and said, “Yes — kindness.”
Later that afternoon, the school principal made an announcement. “A student has shown extraordinary compassion,” he said. “A local businessman witnessed what she did yesterday and was deeply moved. He has offered her a full scholarship.”
Everyone turned to look at Maya. The same girl they used to mock now stood in shock, tears streaming down her face. She had given away her only lunch — and gained something far greater in return.
